Pap Testing

Published by

Pap testing is the primary tool for finding pre-cancerous lesions of the cervix:

  • Begin 3 years after the onset of vaginal intercourse but no later than 21 years old.
  • Perform it every year until age 30.
  • Screen women aged 30 and older who have had 3 consecutive normal pap results every 3 years unless they have HPV, HIV or a new sexual partner.
  • Discontinue pap testing in women who had total hysterectomy for benign lesions or in low-risk women once they have reached 65 to 70 years of age.
