Labia Majora (or Outer Labia)

Published by

The Labia Majora are the thick outer lips surrounding the vulva. These lips are normally meaty. On the outer side is pigmented and it has pubic hairs on it. On the inner edge its got large sebaceous glands. Sebaceous glands are responsible for secreting an oily substance that lubricates the skin and give it a shiny appearance.

These lips are larger closer to the clitoris and thinner closer to the anus.

The Labia Majora is thought to protect the vulva and vagina (like an elastic bumper on a car). It serves to dampen and absorb bumps to the genital area. The pubic hair is thought to protect the vulva and vagina from smaller debris that gets caught in the hair and as a trap for pheromones.

The skin covering the labia majora is the same as the skin on the male scrotum, The outer labia skin thus have the same texture and pigmentation as the male scrotum skin.
