Plateau
The Plateau phase follows the Arousal phase. In reality this is a made up phase. It is a continuation of the Arousal phase and just before the orgasm phase. There is really nothing to delineate the start of this phase. You can feel when you go from unaroused to aroused or when you orgasm. Everything in-between is part of a linear progression with no clear boundaries. Despite this, it is still an extremely important phase as it takes the woman from aroused to orgasm.
Depending on the situation, the Plateau Phase can take anything from a few seconds to over an hour.
During the Plateau Phase, a woman that is aroused is preparing to orgasm. That means that blood keeps on streaming to the genitals making them swell up and increasing the heat, erectile tissue like the clitoris and Labia Minora keeps on swelling up and maintaining its erection, the muscles around the Uterus pulls the Uterus up and backwards, The breasts keeps on filling with blood and feeling fuller. Muscle tension increase in the genital area and the woman begins to realize that something good is going on and she starts craving relieve from these symptoms of arousal – she is getting hot and bothered. To relieve the pressure on the swollen breasts she will want to take off her bra or top and to relieve the heat, engorgement and erection of the clitoris she will want to open her legs wider and wider. She will start to concentrate more on all the good feelings in her own body and tension in her muscles will increase as she starts to concentrate on it. Her heartbeat will increase, her blood pressure will increase and her breathing will get heavier and heavier. Blood will rush everywhere and the skin will get redder, hotter and sweaty because of this.
She will be getting more and more frustrated by these good feelings and will crave for it to be relieved by a mighty orgasm. In order for the Plateau phase to get to orgasm, the stimulation of the woman must be continuous. If it is stopped for a while, the woman will return to the unaroused state. She also have to concentrate on her own feelings and on ways to increase the tension in the muscles around the genitals. If this tension does not build, orgasm will not be reached. This is contrary to what women have been taught for many years; to relax. If the woman is successful in relaxing, this tension in the genital muscles will not form or will dissipate and she will not be able to build to an orgasm.
The clitoris will get more and more sensitive during this process. Just before orgasm, the Clitoris will suddenly engorge fully with blood and become stiff. This will cause the clitoris head to retract under the clitoral hood. This is a sure sign that the woman is going to have an orgasm. The clitoris can become so sensitive to touch that it can be unbearably sore when touched.
Many women also prefer harder and quicker touches the closer they get to orgasm. At the end of the Plateau phase the woman can start to experience false orgasm starts. She will spasm and contract, gasp and clinch without going over the edge and experiencing orgasm. This is normal and the sexual stimulation should continue unabated.
