How do I take care of my vulva and vagina, and stay healthy and clean?

Published by

Your vagina cleans itself. There is absolutely no need to douche or wash inside your vagina. Not after sex and not during or after menstruation. Washing here can have just the opposite effects and cause problems.

You should regularly wash your outer lips and hair with an unscented double fatted soap like Dove. If you have a sweat and/or a smell issue, you can use a anti-bacterial soap. Bacterial soap do however dry out your skin.

Between your inner lips you should use your fingers and normal clean lukewarm water to wash. Wash between the folds. Pull back your clitoris hood and wash there with your fingers in all the corners and folds.

Always pat yourself dry between your legs when you get wet. Do not sit around with wet swimming costume bottoms or panties.

On the toilet, you should wipe from the front to the back to prevent wiping bacteria from your anus into your vulva and vagina. Alternatively you can use a small water spray bottle to wash away urine remnants and then pat yourself dry.

Wear full crotch cotton panties and avaid ylons and tight artificial material. This will allow your vulva to dry and stay dry, and stay airy. Go without panties when it is safe to do so, for example at home and when you sleep. This will allow you to stay cool, dry and airy.

Be cognizant of any possible allergies. Washing powder for clothes, fabric softner, menstrual pads and others. Sometimes the material used in menstrul pads and panty liners change it it is possible that it wiil irritate you.
